Our 5 year-old daughter named Althea, got shortlisted to model one particular brand of kids clothing..."Elle Kids."
Althea became a part of a fashion show organized by Shangri-la Plaza showcasing their latest collection of kids clothing on this years theme Summer's "Fresh Fashion Picks," which includes participation of over 30 famous brands.
We were told by a common friend about it via a private message through Facebook.
No requirement for a face to face meet-up, just sending of Althea's photos via e-mail.
Of course, since it was her first, I and my wife never expect that she would be shortlisted.
The Downside.
We were told that if the tenant will choose her to model their brand...we won't be receiving
any penny.
The boutique will not shoulder expenses out of hair-styling and make-up.
Even the shoes she'll be wearing to match the clothes will be on our own expense as well.
Since, we are after of experience and new learning for Althea...we commit to them.
Some Immediate Changes.
I remember a week after the holy week, we were told to visit the boutique for clothes fitting.
The following day after the rehearsal comes the big day for the ramp. We all came-in an hour before the event, but was surprise when told that the tenant made changes as to the clothes Althea would be wearing.
We were left no choice but to follow.
They also said that the new set of clothes comes with shoes...but the problem is there was no size for our daughter. If we force her to wear them, she might slip or fall down.
Blessing in disguise, my wife brought another shoes that will match her outfit.
Some Hindrances.
During the actual ramp most of the kids including Althea were surprise with the look of the runway.
Most of them rehearsed from a raw platform, guided by arrows out of an improvised masking tapes.
So, I must say that it's pretty normal for her and for the rest of the models to be of shocked upon seeing it.
Some kids failed to ramp on a runway, some has accidentally removed their slippers, some has tantrums, and one kid run instead of walking. Some did overkill of posing, and Althea got distracted with relatives who waved at her and posed for picture while on ramp.
Well, I can't blame them. Who wouldn't be so proud seeing their kids fulfilling their dreams on the ramp.
But for those who are not aware of it, it would be best if the family or relatives act as spectator to avoid distraction. This will help them to concentrate fully on their craft.
After all, if something went wrong usherettes are there to guide the kids.
A Wonderful Break.
For some first timers like that of Althea, as her parents we would look at it as a wonderful opportunity to showcase her innate talent in modeling.
For some, it's a chance to meet new set of friends, and for some it will open another world to your kids aside from their home, schools, and their usual environment. It's also a test of improving their self-confidence and of course, it's always secondary to think of money over experience.
Looking forward.
We hope that with this exciting event in our kid's life, soon it will open new doors for other opportunity. But whatever comes her way, if she likes it...we are here and willing to not only give her a hundred percent support.
Althea, we want you to know that no matter how big or small your achievement are...I and your Mom will always be here for you.
For now, congratulations to you for a job well done!
